Born Into Brothels

Born into Brothels is a fantastic documentary. A photographer goes to Calcutta's red light district to document the prostitutes. However, she bonds almost instantly with the children. She gives the children cameras and then tells them to just take pictures. It was truly an awe-inspiring movies. It was nice to know that kids are kids no matter where they are in the world. The kids in the movies were so strong despite their life. They took verbal and physical beatings from parents and let it roll off their backs. Some yearned for a better life and when education was granted to them they shied away from it. Some took the opportunity and succeeded. I was particularly impressed with Gour. He seemed to care more about others than himself. He stated that he wanted to take one of the girls away because he knew what kind of life she would lead if she stayed in the brothels. In the film he was one of the only children who stayed and did not go to a boarding school. I believe the impression he made on me will last a lifetime.

I agree with you about Gour. He seemed to be a 40 year old in a child's body. But oh so cute!!

I liked Gour, too! he was wise beyond his years. I, also was impressed that no matter how dire circumstances are, kids are still kids!
